Was The Martian wrong to change the races of some of its characters?

It's kind of sad that all of this is deferring from this point this is film had not only great African American and Asian characters in key roles in the story, but also great Latino and female characters as well! The diversity, both in terms of race and gender was one of the things I loved about this movie and let's get something straight, if the author is happy with the adaptation, which I'm sure he is, then it's all good in my eyes. The casting directors of this film and Ridley Scott's instincts in the casting should be applauded as far as I'm concerned!

For those of you saying, "Who cares?": so few projects are written specifically with Asian-American characters in them, and Asian actors in Hollywood are struggling to get bigger, meatier roles that are given to others instead. Ridley Scott (of whom I'm a big fan) also did this in Exodus when he castes nearly all white actors for roles that were supposed to Egyptians. Everyone is struggling to get bigger, meatier roles that;s Hollywood. One of the best roles in this movie...a big, meaty role, was cast Asian-american the head of JPL. What about all the "American" roles going to British actors? Tom Middleton will be playing Hank Williams should we bitch about that too? Hollywood is a tough business no matter what your race or nationality is...and things are often changed on availability...to complain about one role, when the IMDB is peppered with Asians (FYI...pay a few bucks to have your picture put on there if you want more roles) is a stretch.
